  • Native Arabic speakers
  • English and German speakers
  • Ijazah holders on the team

Video transcript: Inside a live online Tajweed lesson at Murouj Academy

A teacher tests a student on Tajweed rules in a live one-to-one lesson, with the lesson material on a shared screen.

Have you ever wondered what it's like inside a class at Murouj Academy?

So inshallah, today I'm going to test you on some Tajweed rules. Are you ready?

Yes.

[Quran recitation]

Perfect.

[Quran recitation]

We teach real people just like you from their own home from around the world.

Every lesson is live, personal and tailored just for you.

Thank you.

An online Tajweed teacher at Murouj Academy listens to you recite, shows you exactly where a letter or a rule goes wrong, and builds each lesson around what you need. Every teacher is a native Arabic speaker, most speak English and some teach in German, every lesson is live and one-to-one, and you start with a free trial class.

What a Tajweed teacher does

  • Hears every letter and corrects it from its correct articulation point.
  • Teaches the rules: noon sakinah and tanween, meem sakinah, madd, stopping and starting.
  • Fixes mistakes live, then has you repeat until the sound is right.
  • Applies the rules to the Quran you actually read, not to examples alone.

Who it is for

  • Children who can read from the Qaida, in short, lively lessons.
  • Adults who read but are unsure and want to fix mistakes in private.
  • Hifz and ijazah students, for whom Tajweed is the foundation.
  • Women and girls, always with a female teacher.

How we select our teachers

Knowing the Quran is not enough: they must know how to teach.

  1. Ijazah and recitation check
  2. Tajweed knowledge check
  3. Teaching skills check
  4. English fluency check
  5. Mock lesson

Ijazah is strongly encouraged. A certified scholar who works with Murouj can grant one, and we recommend promising teachers to study with her to earn one.

What a lesson looks like

One teacher, one student, 30, 45 or 60 minutes, live on Zoom, Google Meet or Halqora, never recorded.

  1. You recite a passage aloud.
  2. Your teacher corrects it on the spot, naming the rule and modelling the sound.
  3. You repeat until it is right.
  4. A written report reaches your family's WhatsApp group after class.

Female and male teachers

Women and girls are always taught by female teachers, who also teach boys aged 4 to 12. Male teachers teach boys and men only.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Answers to what parents and students ask us most.

Ask us on WhatsApp

Who will my Tajweed teacher be?

Murouj matches the best available teacher for your needs after you book a free trial class. Families do not pick from a list. If the fit is not right, Murouj switches you to another teacher, and this can repeat until it is.

What does a Tajweed teacher do in an online lesson?

Your teacher listens to you recite, stops at a mistake, names the rule or the letter involved, shows you the correct sound and has you repeat it. Tajweed is a spoken skill, so the teacher hears and corrects every letter live.

Can I learn Tajweed if I cannot read Arabic yet?

You need to be able to read the Arabic letters. If you cannot yet, you start with the Noorani Qaida, and your teacher moves you on to Tajweed once you can read.

Can adults who already read the Quran learn Tajweed?

Yes. Many adults read the Quran but are unsure of their mistakes. A one-to-one class lets you fix them in private, and men are taught by male teachers.

Is there a female Tajweed teacher for me or my daughter?

Yes. Women and girls are always taught by female teachers, in a fully private one-to-one class. Female teachers also teach boys aged 4 to 12. Male teachers teach boys and men only.

Can a Tajweed teacher help with Hifz or an ijazah?

Yes. Tajweed is the foundation for both memorization and ijazah study, so Tajweed lessons support either goal.

Do your Tajweed teachers have an ijazah?

An ijazah is strongly encouraged, not required. A certified scholar who works with Murouj can grant an ijazah, and we recommend promising teachers to study with her to earn one. Some teachers hold one, and each profile on the teachers page states that teacher's own studies and ijazah.
