Murouj Academy is a specialist: it teaches only the Quran and Arabic, and it vets and matches its native Arabic-speaking teachers. Preply and Superprof are broad marketplaces where you browse independent tutors across many subjects.

How is Murouj Academy different from Preply and Superprof?

All three offer online lessons. The difference is the model:

  • A specialist academy. Murouj Academy teaches Quran recitation, Tajweed, hifz, Qaida, Arabic and Islamic studies, and nothing else. See our online Quran academy.
  • Teachers we choose. Every teacher is a native Arabic speaker selected in five steps, and only the top 4% of applicants qualify.
  • A match, not a search. Murouj matches the teacher for the free trial class and switches to another if the fit is not right.
  • A service around the lesson: makeup lessons, written reports and privacy rules for women and girls.

Preply and Superprof are marketplaces. They are built for many subjects, many tutors and your own search, and they can work well for that.

How do the three compare?

Murouj Academy Tutor marketplaces such as Preply and Superprof
Focus Quran and Arabic only Many subjects and languages, with Quran one category among them

How the teacher is assigned Murouj matches one and switches if the fit is wrong You browse and choose
Lesson format One-to-one only, never a group Usually one-to-one, depending on the tutor

Missed lessons Made up later or covered by a temporary substitute Depends on each tutor's policy
Progress reports A written report after every class in your family's WhatsApp group Varies by tutor and platform

This table describes how marketplaces generally work, as of November 2026. Each platform and each tutor sets its own terms, so check their current policy before you decide.

How are Murouj Academy teachers vetted and matched?

Selection has five steps, in this order: an ijazah and recitation check, a Tajweed knowledge check, a teaching skills check, an English fluency check, and a mock lesson with a team member playing the student, for children and for adults separately. Every teacher is a native Arabic speaker. Some hold an ijazah, and each profile states that teacher's own studies. See our teachers.

Matching follows what you tell us: the student's age, level, goals and schedule, and whether a female or male teacher is needed. Women and girls are always matched with female teachers. For how conduct and safety work, read our safeguarding page.

What happens if a lesson is missed?

No class is missed. If a teacher is away for a day or a few days, the lessons are either made up on other days once the teacher is back or a temporary substitute teaches until the assigned teacher returns. A female student's substitute is always a female teacher. Families can cancel up to 3 hours before a class, up to 2 times a month, and it is made up on another day. Teachers are held to the same commitment.

Do I get progress reports and female-teacher privacy?

Yes to both. After every class our admin team posts a written report in your family's WhatsApp group: performance, what was covered, homework and the teacher's notes. Women and girls are taught only by female teachers, a non-mahram man must not be on camera or watching, and lessons are never recorded. Read about female Quran teachers.

When is a marketplace the better choice?

A marketplace can be a sensible choice if:

  • you want to learn several subjects or languages in one place;
  • you want to browse and compare many tutors yourself;
  • you want one casual lesson, not a long plan.

A specialist academy is a better fit if you want Quran reading, Tajweed, hifz or Arabic with a vetted teacher, a plan and someone checking progress. Compare more options in our guide to online Quran academies or our checklist for choosing an online Quran teacher.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Answers to what parents and students ask us most.

Ask us on WhatsApp

Is Murouj Academy a tutor marketplace like Preply or Superprof?

No. Murouj Academy is an academy that teaches only the Quran and Arabic. It selects its own native Arabic-speaking teachers, matches each student to one for a free trial class and runs the lessons, so the family does not search through profiles. Preply and Superprof are broad marketplaces where you browse independent tutors across many subjects.

Can I browse tutor profiles at Murouj Academy, as on a marketplace?

No. Families do not browse a list. Murouj matches an available teacher to the student's needs for the free trial class, and if the fit is not right we switch to another, which can repeat. On a marketplace you browse profiles and choose yourself, which some families prefer.

What happens if my teacher misses a lesson?

No class is missed. If a teacher is away, the lessons are made up on other days once the teacher returns, or a temporary substitute teaches until the assigned teacher is back, and a female student's substitute is always female. On a marketplace, makeup rules usually depend on the individual tutor's policy.

Do Murouj Academy teachers have Quran qualifications?

Every teacher is a native Arabic speaker and passes five selection steps: an ijazah and recitation check, a Tajweed knowledge check, a teaching skills check, an English fluency check and a mock lesson. Only the top 4% of applicants qualify, and some teachers hold an ijazah, stated on each profile.

Do I get progress reports?

Yes. After every class a written report goes to your family's own WhatsApp group with our admin team, covering performance, what was covered, homework and the teacher's notes. A student with daily classes gets a daily report.

Can women and girls be taught only by women?

Yes. At Murouj Academy girls and women are always taught by female teachers, and women's privacy is respected on both sides of the screen. On a marketplace this depends on the individual tutor, so you would check each profile.

When is a marketplace the better choice?

If you want to learn several subjects or languages in one place, want to browse and compare many tutors yourself, or want a single casual lesson, a marketplace may suit you. If your goal is Quran reading, Tajweed, hifz or Arabic with a vetted teacher and a plan, a specialist academy fits better.

How much do lessons cost at Murouj Academy compared with marketplaces?

The plan depends on lesson length (30, 45 or 60 minutes), classes a week and the course. Marketplace tutors set their own rates. For Murouj Academy pricing, contact us, and take the free trial class first with no obligation to buy a package.
