Will my Quran teacher always be a woman?

Yes. At Murouj Academy, women and girls are always taught by a female teacher. We don't treat it as a request we try to meet: it is how the academy matches every sister and every girl. Adult men are taught by male teachers, and for young children the parent chooses the teacher.

Because every class is one-to-one, there is no shared room and no other student in your lesson. It is you and your teacher, on the same Quran page.

What an ijazah means for your lessons

An ijazah is a formal, chain-based authorisation from a qualified teacher. It certifies that the holder has mastered a body of knowledge, such as reciting the Quran, and is allowed to teach it and to certify others. A friend or relative who knows the Quran well can help you practise, but they are not a certified teacher. Every Murouj Academy teacher holds an ijazah, so the sister correcting your recitation has been checked and authorised herself. Read more in our guides to the types of ijazah and ijazah in Quran recitation.

Girls are always taught by female teachers. For younger children, the parent chooses the teacher from our profiles, and most children at Murouj Academy learn with women.
