Online Quran Classes in the Netherlands

Murouj Academy offers live one-to-one online Quran classes with native Arab teachers, including ijazah holders, female teachers for women and girls, and a free trial class so you choose your teacher before you commit. Families in the Netherlands book every class in Dutch local time, CET in winter and CEST in summer.

Lessons that fit your family's schedule

You agree the time in Dutch local time, and it holds when the clocks change, so a lesson booked for 16:30 starts at 16:30 on your clock all year. Families commonly pick an afternoon slot after school, an evening slot, or a weekend slot. Since a Dutch secondary-school timetable can differ from one weekday to the next, you can book different times on different days. You choose the pattern when you book your free trial class.

How do lessons fit around Dutch school life?

Primary and secondary schools in the Netherlands run on different rhythms, and a one-to-one lesson can follow each of them.

  • Primary-age children. Many finish school in the afternoon, so a short 30-minute lesson soon afterwards, or an early evening one, works well while attention is still good.
  • Secondary-school pupils. Timetables often change from day to day and gaps between lessons are common, so we plan the week around the days when you finish early and keep long school days free.
  • Weekends. A longer weekend lesson suits revision, memorisation or an older pupil who wants more time with the teacher.
  • Holidays and exams. Holiday dates are set by region, and exam periods have their own pressure. Tell your teacher what is coming and agree together whether to continue, change the times or pause.

How do you raise children with Arabic and the Quran alongside Dutch schooling?

Children growing up in the Netherlands spend their school days in Dutch. The Quran and Arabic need steady contact, not occasional bursts, and one-to-one lessons are a way to give them that without travelling anywhere.

  • No Arabic needed to start. The Qaida classes for beginners begin at the first letter, and the teacher explains in English, so a child who has only ever heard Arabic at home can still learn to read it.
  • Close listening. In a one-to-one lesson the teacher hears every letter and corrects it at once. That matters when your child hears more Dutch than Arabic during the week.
  • From reading to reciting well. After the Qaida, a child can move on to the Tajweed classes or to Quran recitation correction, where the teacher listens to the recitation and corrects it live.
  • Language at home. If your children understand Arabic at home but cannot read or write it, the Standard Arabic course builds those skills step by step.

Some families also use a mosque or weekend class. Online lessons can sit alongside it: the mosque gives community, and the one-to-one lesson gives focused time with a teacher.

Meet some of our teachers

Arabic is the first language of every teacher at Murouj Academy, and each profile on the teachers page lists that teacher's own studies. Where a teacher holds an ijazah, the profile says so; our guide to the types of ijazah explains what the word means. A parent or friend who knows the Quran can help you practise, but a certified teacher is a different thing.

Where should we begin?

Match your child, or yourself, to the line that fits best. All six courses are one-to-one, and none ranks above another.

If the learner... Start with
cannot read Arabic yet Qaida classes for beginners
reads and wants to study the rules Tajweed classes
reads and wants a teacher to correct how they recite Quran recitation correction
wants to memorise Quran memorisation course
wants the language Standard Arabic course
is a child learning about belief, worship and manners Islamic studies for kids

How does the free trial work?

Use the free trial form or message us on WhatsApp with the learner's age, goals and the Dutch times that suit you. We agree a slot with the teacher you pick. If the first class does not feel right, try another free class with someone else. Once it does, you choose a package and continue with that teacher.

How much does an online Quran class cost?

We do not publish a price list. What you pay depends on the number of classes per week and the lesson length, and we send a quote once your free trial class is done. The packages page shows the options, and payment can be made by Wise, PayPal or bank transfer.

Frequently asked questions

What time zone are lessons booked in for the Netherlands?

Every lesson is booked in your own local time: Central European Time (CET, UTC+1) in winter and Central European Summer Time (CEST, UTC+2) in summer. The time you agree with your teacher is the time on your clock, and it stays the same when the clocks change.

Can lessons follow a school timetable that changes from day to day?

Yes. Because every class is one-to-one, the slot does not have to be the same each day. A family can book a later lesson on a long school day and an earlier one on a short day, and agree the weekly pattern with the teacher.

Are school holidays a problem?

Dutch school holidays are set by region, so we do not publish dates. Tell your teacher when your holiday starts and agree together whether to continue, change the times or pause.

In which language are the lessons taught?

Lessons are explained in English as well as Arabic. We do not teach in Dutch. A child who speaks Dutch at school and another language at home can still start from the first Arabic letter, because the Qaida needs no earlier Arabic.

Is a female teacher guaranteed for my daughter?

Yes. At Murouj Academy women and girls are always taught by female teachers. For younger children the parent chooses the teacher, and most children learn with female teachers.

Can we choose our teacher?

Yes. You choose your teacher from our teacher profiles through free trial classes, until you find the right fit. Once you commit, you continue with that teacher, which is how the long-term relationship and the personalised plan work. Teacher matching is never random.

How much does an online Quran class cost?

Murouj Academy doesn't publish prices. The cost depends on how many classes you take a week (two to five) and how long each lesson is (30, 45 or 60 minutes). A quote for your package follows your free trial class, and our packages page lists the options.

Is there a free trial class?

Yes. Every family starts with a free one-to-one trial class with the teacher they choose. The teacher checks the learner's level and suggests a plan before you decide on a package.
