Online Quran Classes in Germany

Murouj Academy offers live one-to-one online Quran classes with native Arab teachers, including ijazah holders, female teachers for women and girls, and a free trial class so you choose your teacher before you commit. Families in Germany book every class in their own local time, Central European Time in winter and Central European Summer Time in summer.

Murouj Academy for families in Germany at a glance

  • Format: one student with one teacher, never a group. Each learner has a personalised plan, with lessons of 30, 45 or 60 minutes, two to five times a week.
  • Clock: classes are booked in German local time, CET (UTC+1) from the end of October to the end of March and CEST (UTC+2) in between. The clocks change on the last Sunday of March and of October.
  • Language: teachers explain in English as well as Arabic. We do not teach in German.
  • Teachers: native Arabic speakers from the Arab world, some of them ijazah holders. Many studied at, or are certified by, Al-Azhar, and each profile states what that teacher holds.
  • Your choice: you pick your teacher through free trial classes before you commit. Women and girls are taught by female teachers and adult men by male teachers; for a child, the parent decides.
  • Contact: WhatsApp +1 (315) 541-8837. Murouj LLC is registered in the United States and there is no German office, because all teaching happens online.

Lessons that fit your family's schedule

Every class is booked in your local German time, so a lesson you agree for 17:00 starts at 17:00 on your clock in both winter and summer. Families usually choose an afternoon slot after school, an evening slot, or a weekend slot, and many use different times on different days. You pick the times when you book your free trial class.

How do lessons fit around the German school day?

Schools in Germany are run by the sixteen states, so the length of the school day and the dates of the holidays differ from one family to the next. We therefore plan around your timetable instead of a published calendar.

  • After school. Many younger children finish school around lunchtime or in the early afternoon, which leaves the afternoon open for a short Quran lesson before homework and clubs.
  • All-day schools. If your child is at school until late afternoon, an evening or weekend lesson is usually the better fit. Shorter 30-minute lessons keep a tired child focused.
  • Weekends. A longer weekend lesson suits hifz revision or older children who want more time with their teacher.
  • Holidays and exams. Holiday dates are set by each state. Tell your teacher when a break or an exam period is coming, and agree together whether to continue, change the times or pause.

How do you keep Quran and Arabic going alongside German schooling?

Children in Germany spend most of their week in German, in school and with friends. Quran and Arabic often have to fit into whatever time is left, and a small, regular lesson tends to last longer than an occasional long one.

  • Starting from zero. A child who has never seen the Arabic alphabet begins with the Qaida classes for beginners. No earlier Arabic is needed, and the teacher explains each step in English.
  • Hearing every word. In a one-to-one lesson the teacher listens to every letter your child recites and corrects it straight away, which matters most when Arabic is not the language of the school day.
  • Arabic for the family. Children who speak Arabic at home but have never studied it formally can add the Standard Arabic course to read and write with confidence.
  • A routine they can keep. A fixed slot, such as the same afternoon each week, helps a child treat Quran time like any other part of the week.

Some families also attend a mosque class or weekend school. One-to-one online lessons sit alongside that: the mosque gives community, and the lesson gives focused time with a teacher.

Meet some of our teachers

Every Murouj Academy teacher is a native Arabic speaker from the Arab world, so pronunciation and makharij are modelled the way the Quran is meant to sound. Some of our teachers hold an ijazah, a formal, chain-based authorisation from a qualified teacher to teach and certify a body of knowledge such as reciting the Quran. Each profile on the teachers page states what that teacher holds. Our guide to the meaning and types of ijazah explains the difference between an ijazah and a certificate.

Female teachers for women and girls

Women and girls are always taught by female teachers at Murouj Academy. Adult men are taught by male teachers. For children, the parent chooses the teacher, and most of the children we teach learn with female teachers.

Which of the six courses suits us?

All six courses are one-to-one, and none ranks above another:

Unsure? The free trial class includes a level check, and the teacher recommends a starting point.

How does the free trial work?

  1. Book. Fill in the free trial form or send a WhatsApp message with the learner's age, goals and the German times that suit you.
  2. Meet a teacher. Read the profiles and choose a teacher, and we agree a time with them. If it doesn't feel right, try another free class.
  3. Decide. The teacher checks the learner's level and proposes a plan. When it feels right, you choose a package of two to five classes a week at 30, 45 or 60 minutes.

How much does an online Quran class cost?

Murouj Academy doesn't publish prices. The cost depends on how many classes you take a week and how long each lesson is, and a quote for your package follows your free trial class. The packages page lists the options. Payment is by Wise, PayPal or bank transfer.

Do learners stick with it?

Most of our students stay with Murouj Academy for more than a year. Learning the Quran is a long project, and a teacher you chose yourself makes it easier to keep going. Students describe their experience on the reviews page. Families in the Netherlands can read our page on online Quran classes in the Netherlands, and our UK page covers another European market.

Frequently asked questions

What time zone are lessons booked in for Germany?

Every lesson is booked in your own local time: Central European Time (CET, UTC+1) in winter and Central European Summer Time (CEST, UTC+2) in summer. Your teacher and the academy handle the conversion, so the time you agree is the time on your clock.

Which lesson times work around the German school day?

Many families choose an afternoon slot after school, an evening slot, or a weekend slot. Because every class is one-to-one, you pick the time that suits your child and your household, and it can be different on different weekdays.

Do lessons clash with school holidays that differ by state?

School holidays in Germany are set by each state, so we do not publish holiday dates. Tell your teacher when your state's holidays start and agree the plan together; one-to-one lessons can follow your calendar rather than a fixed timetable.

In which language are the lessons taught?

Lessons are explained in English as well as Arabic. A child who speaks German at school and another language at home can still start from the first Arabic letter, because the Qaida needs no earlier Arabic.

Is a female teacher guaranteed for my daughter?

Yes. At Murouj Academy women and girls are always taught by female teachers. For younger children the parent chooses the teacher, and most children learn with female teachers.

Can we choose our teacher?

Yes. You choose your teacher from our teacher profiles through free trial classes, until you find the right fit. Once you commit, you continue with that teacher, which is how the long-term relationship and the personalised plan work. Teacher matching is never random.

How much does an online Quran class cost?

Murouj Academy doesn't publish prices. The cost depends on how many classes you take a week (two to five) and how long each lesson is (30, 45 or 60 minutes). A quote for your package follows your free trial class, and our packages page lists the options.

Is there a free trial class?

Yes. Every family starts with a free one-to-one trial class with the teacher they choose. The teacher checks the learner's level and suggests a plan before you decide on a package.
