An online Hifz teacher at Murouj Academy hears every verse you memorize, corrects it as you recite, and sets your new memorization and revision each week. Every teacher is a native Arabic speaker, most speak English and some teach in German, every lesson is live and one-to-one, and you start with a free trial class.

What a Hifz teacher does

  • Listens to every verse and corrects pronunciation and Tajweed before it is memorized.
  • Sets your plan: weekly new memorization and revision, built from your age, level and time.
  • Tests your revision to find weak passages early.
  • Keeps you steady from the short surahs towards the whole Quran, if that is your goal.

Who it is for

  • Children from age 4, starting with short surahs and a steady habit.
  • Teens and adults with busy lives, at a pace you can keep.
  • Women and girls, always with a female teacher.
  • Huffaz who want to revise: see Quran revision (muraja'ah).

How we select our teachers

Knowing the Quran is not enough: they must know how to teach.

  1. Ijazah and recitation check
  2. Tajweed knowledge check
  3. Teaching skills check
  4. English fluency check
  5. Mock lesson

Ijazah is strongly encouraged. A certified scholar who works with Murouj can grant one, and we recommend promising teachers to study with her to earn one.

What a lesson looks like

One teacher, one student, 30, 45 or 60 minutes, live on Zoom, Google Meet or Halqora, never recorded. A lesson mixes three things:

  1. Revision: you recite what you have already memorized, and your teacher listens.
  2. New memorization: the correct pronunciation first, then repeating the portion until it holds.
  3. Corrections on the spot, with a written report in your family's WhatsApp group after class.

Female and male teachers

Women and girls are always taught by female teachers, who also teach boys aged 4 to 12. Male teachers teach boys and men only.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Answers to what parents and students ask us most.

Ask us on WhatsApp

Who will my Hifz teacher be?

Murouj matches the best available teacher for your needs after you book a free trial class. Families do not pick from a list. If the fit is not right, Murouj switches you to another teacher, and this can repeat until it is.

How does an online Hifz teacher help me memorize the Quran?

Your teacher hears every verse you recite and corrects it on the spot, sets your weekly new memorization and revision from your age, level and time, and tests your revision to find weak passages early. Because the class is one-to-one, all of the lesson time is yours.

Can my child memorize the Quran online?

Yes. The minimum age is 4, and every Murouj teacher is qualified to teach young children. Children usually start with short surahs and a steady habit, and 30-minute lessons suit young children.

Is there a female Hifz teacher for me or my daughter?

Yes. Women and girls are always taught by female teachers, in a fully private one-to-one class. Female teachers also teach boys aged 4 to 12. Male teachers teach boys and men only.

I already memorized part of the Quran. Can I join?

Yes. The Hifz program runs from beginners to advanced students, including huffaz who want to revise. Your teacher checks your level in the free trial class and builds a plan from there.

Do your Hifz teachers have an ijazah?

An ijazah is strongly encouraged, not required. A certified scholar who works with Murouj can grant an ijazah, and we recommend promising teachers to study with her to earn one. Some teachers hold one, and each profile on the teachers page states that teacher's own studies and ijazah.

Do I need to read Arabic before I start Hifz?

Your reading is checked in the free trial class. Knowing the Arabic script helps. If you cannot read yet, you can start with Noorani Qaida lessons and move to memorization once you can read.

Get matched with a teacher

Ready to begin?

Your free trial class is with a teacher Murouj matches to you, and if the fit is not right, Murouj switches to another teacher. Women and girls always learn with female teachers.
