Moral Excellence In Islam:
The theory of the Islamic state is derived from the Qur’an and Sunnah. The Qur’an defines the objectives, meaning, and principles of a moral society; it establishes a clear structure for government and jurisprudence based upon justice in social affairs, individual conduct, and its impact on society.
Islam provides a complete system of moral, social, and ethical values to inform the interactions of people in their dealings with each other and with God. Its ethics represent the deepest needs of human nature.
Islam has sought to attain both these objectives in its own unique way. The establishment of Islamic law constitutes a fundamental pillar of Islam, but Islam is also concerned with the cultivation of human inclinations and dispositions. Thus, it seeks to achieve this through gradual steps and personal effort geared towards achieving inner piety, avoiding vices, and promoting virtues; not through state-organized programs or coerced practices.
Moral excellence in Islam is the most important of all the religious duties since it is through morality that one performs other religious duties. In its
plural form, ‘moral virtues’ means the qualities of the soul which keep a person steadfast on his path in performing his religious duties.
Forbearance is one of Moral excellence in Islam
Among the admirable virtues of Islam is its recognition of anger as a natural feeling. It also teaches us that, while we must live with our anger, we must also keep it in control. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) once said: “Do not express your anger when you are angry. If a person has some right over you and he claims it, fulfill his right to the extent to which he is entitled. The right of a neighbor is that of being kind to him, and anyone who believes in God and the Last Day should say what is good or keep silent.”
The best thing that we can do to others is to make them happy, and the best way we can make them happy is by giving them blessings. The greatest blessing which we can give to our Prophet is by following his example. This will definitely bring happiness to him in this world and allow him a place of honor in the Hereafter for following such an example.
Munificence is one of Moral excellence in Islam
Munificence is one of the higher objectives of the Shari’ah. The Messenger of Allah said: “Munificence is from piety and miserliness is from faithlessness.” It was narrated from Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet said: “The most excellent fast after Ramadan is Allah’s month of Ramadhan, and the most excellent form of Hajj after Hajj-at-Tamattu ‘is ‘Umrah in Allah’s month of Ramadhan.” This is what Islam aims at – it seeks to purify one’s soul from miserliness and replace it with the virtue of munificence; wherever Muslims are commanded to spend on the charity they quickly hasten to comply so as to embody unsparing generosity.
Bravery is one of Moral excellence in Islam
Moral excellence in Islam conforms to the great nobility and dignity that characterize human beings. Ideally, the noble qualities of human beings are manifested in the characteristics of courage, fortitude, and resolve as well as self-sacrifice and giving one’s life for others. This was especially emphasized by Islam, which looked forward to an ideal society characterized by these qualities.
As for moral bravery, Islam considers enjoining good and forbidding evil one of the obligations of faith, and it is not the exclusive duty of the appointed ‘official’ scholars, nor some scholars in a special uniform, but rather an individual duty required of each and every Muslim who witnesses the neglect of good, while knowing it to be good, or the commission of evil, while knowing it to be evil.
Military and moral bravery are two factors that are essential for the protection and perpetuation of the Ummah. Military bravery means courage on the battlefield, of which there are many types and degrees. All military leaders require this virtue, whether their positions be small or large. The way one acts in a war requires it as well, including waging war against one’s own self by doing what is enjoined and avoiding what is forbidden; acting in accordance with the Shari’ah rules; combining both steadfastness and flexibility; mastering strategic planning; persevering until victory is attained; patience when things do not occur according to one’s wishes; making sacrifices, and showing grace even to one’s enemy – all these traits need military bravery if they are to be realized.
Bashfulness and modesty is one of Moral excellence in Islam
In fact, Hayaa’ is a moral adornment that adds to the dignity of an old man and the courteousness of a young one, and it is an all-encompassing moral aspect of Islam. I believe that a parent should allow his child to express himself in his presence and discuss worldly or scientific issues to train him, under his supervision, on expressing and discussing sound opinions, and whenever he deviates from the virtue of Hayaa’ in words or gestures, the parent should alert him gently and advise him wisely.
Truthfulness is one of Moral excellence in Islam
Lying is one of the most destructive vices and a root cause of many types of evil. It spoils one’s interactions and dealings with people and renders his narration and testimony rejected. It is not strange that religion, which aims to rectify the affairs of both individuals and groups, fosters the virtue of truthfulness and deems lying uncompromisingly forbidden.
Patience is one of Moral excellence in Islam
The greatest of all good deeds is to constantly maintain a cheerful disposition, which reflects an excellent character and a state of contentment. The Prophet said: “The most beloved of good deeds to Allah is that in which one persists and is not prevented from doing it; its sweetness continues to remain in his heart like the taste of honey, even if that is abstaining from food and drink out of fear for Allah.” A believer must therefore be patient in performing acts of obedience and those that are disliked due to the hardships involved in them, as well as with his possessions and his time, for if he does this, he will experience great inner peace, and tranquility, comfort, and joy.
Dignity is one of Moral excellence in Islam
Islam is a religion that holds high standards of moral excellence in Islam and discipline in all dealings. If we are to be truly religious and spiritual, then we must set high standards for ourselves and adhere to them, whether it is in our attitude towards our parents, siblings, or children; towards society as a whole; towards the environment; towards our community; towards those who are inferior to us or superior to us.
Asceticism is one of Moral excellence in Islam
Islamic asceticism is a morally excellent trait that is based on dignity, munificence, and chastity. This means that a person refrains from committing immoral acts and refrains from living in squalid conditions. In this sense, asceticism helps a person have dignity, munificence, and chastity. However, some people have misunderstood asceticism, which is refined moral excellence in Islam value, and associated it with a person who refrains from working and earning a living despite his ability and is content with being among the poor who rely on the charitable giving of the rich.
