An online Arabic teacher at Murouj Academy teaches you to read, write, understand and speak Arabic in live one-to-one lessons built around your goal. Every teacher is a native Arabic speaker, most speak English and some teach in German, and you start with a free trial class.

What an Arabic teacher does

  • Teaches the alphabet and sounds correctly from the start, with short and long vowels.
  • Builds vocabulary and grammar step by step, from everyday words to sentences and short texts.
  • Has you read and speak aloud, and corrects you as you go.
  • Keeps your goal in view: Modern Standard Arabic, or the Arabic of the Quran.

Who it is for

  • Children from age 4: letters, words and simple sentences in short, lively lessons.
  • Adults, for faith, family, study or travel, at a goal and pace you set.
  • Quran students who want to understand what they recite. See the Quranic Arabic course.
  • Women and girls, always with a female teacher.

How we select our teachers

Knowing the Quran is not enough: they must know how to teach.

  1. Ijazah and recitation check
  2. Tajweed knowledge check
  3. Teaching skills check
  4. English fluency check
  5. Mock lesson

Ijazah is strongly encouraged. A certified scholar who works with Murouj can grant one, and we recommend promising teachers to study with her to earn one.

What a lesson looks like

One teacher, one student, 30, 45 or 60 minutes, live on Zoom, Google Meet or Halqora, never recorded.

  1. You read, write or speak the material for your level.
  2. Your teacher corrects you on the spot and explains the rule or the word.
  3. You repeat it until it is right.
  4. A written report reaches your family's WhatsApp group after class.

Female and male teachers

Women and girls are always taught by female teachers, who also teach boys aged 4 to 12. Male teachers teach boys and men only.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Answers to what parents and students ask us most.

Ask us on WhatsApp

Who will my Arabic teacher be?

Murouj matches the best available teacher for your needs after you book a free trial class. Families do not pick from a list. If the fit is not right, Murouj switches you to another teacher, and this can repeat until it is.

Are the Arabic teachers native speakers?

Yes. Every Murouj teacher is a native Arabic speaker, so Arabic is their first language, and most of our teachers speak English, so you do not need any Arabic to start.

Can I learn Modern Standard Arabic or the Arabic of the Quran?

Both. Your teacher builds the curriculum around your goal: Modern Standard Arabic for reading, writing and speaking, or Arabic for understanding the Quran. See the Quranic Arabic course for the second.

Can children learn Arabic with an online teacher?

Yes. The minimum age is 4. Children start with letters, words and simple sentences in short, lively lessons with a teacher who is qualified to teach young children.

What level do I need to start?

None. The course runs from complete beginners to advanced students, and your level is checked in the free trial class.

Is there a female Arabic teacher for me or my daughter?

Yes. Women and girls are always taught by female teachers, in a fully private one-to-one class. Female teachers also teach boys aged 4 to 12. Male teachers teach boys and men only.

How is this different from an Arabic app or a group class?

Every lesson is live and one-to-one, so the whole lesson is you speaking, reading and being corrected by a teacher who plans each class around your goal. Murouj does not run group classes.

Get matched with a teacher
