Online Quran Classes in Chicago: Qaida, Tajweed and Arabic in Central Time

Murouj Academy teaches the Quran online to Chicago families, in the city and the suburbs. The teachers are native Arabic speakers who work to US hours, so a Central time lesson can fit straight after school or in an evening. Adult reverts start with the Noorani Qaida, and girls learn with female teachers.

Chicago hours in Central time

Chicago is one hour behind New York. Our teachers work to US hours, so before-school, after-school and weekend slots are available in Central time.

Chicago time What it suits
Weekdays 4:00 to 8:00 pm After school and after work: the core window
Weekdays 6:30 to 7:30 am A pre-school or pre-work lesson; subject to teacher availability
Saturday 9:00 am to 1:00 pm The weekend slot for adults and families

We suggest finishing by 8 pm Central on weekdays, and we confirm the hour at booking.

Southwest suburbs and "Little Palestine"

Bridgeview and the nearby southwest suburbs, sometimes called "Little Palestine", are home to a large Palestinian and Jordanian Arab community (Chicago Reporter; WBEZ). Families there often speak Arabic at home, so a teacher who talks with the parents in Arabic and with the child in English is a practical help, not a luxury.

Murouj Academy is online-only and has no presence in Bridgeview or any other part of the Chicago area. We simply teach households there, like anywhere in Central time.

Adults in Chicago: reverts, tajweed and Arabic

Adults come to the Quran at different starting points, and an evening lesson at home suits most of them.

  • New Muslims: start with the Noorani Qaida, one letter at a time, until you can read the Quran on your own.
  • Readers with mistakes: tajweed lessons in the evening, with the teacher listening to each verse.
  • Learners of Arabic: a native speaker for the language itself, separate from the Quran lessons.

Our page on Quran classes for adults explains the pace. For children: Early kids (5 to 8) begin with letters, Kids (9 to 12) with fluent reading and tajweed, and Teens (13 to 17) with correction and memorisation.

Daughters and women: female teachers

Women and girls in Chicago are taught by female teachers only. The Islamic privacy rule is kept: when a female teacher teaches a female student, no non-mahram man can see her. Read about privacy in our lessons or meet the female teachers.

Frequently asked questions

Are there online Quran classes in Chicago for kids, one to one?

Yes. A Chicago child has one teacher on video for the whole lesson, with no other students in the call. You choose the teacher through free trial classes, and once you commit your child continues with that teacher.

Can an adult revert in Chicago learn the Noorani Qaida online?

Yes. A new Muslim starts at the first Arabic letter with the Noorani Qaida, in private one-to-one lessons at their own pace. Women are taught by female teachers and men by male teachers, and the first class is a free trial.

Is there a female Quran teacher online in Chicago for my daughter?

Yes. Every girl and woman is taught by a female teacher and kept private from non-mahram men, including any man in the teacher's home. For a younger daughter, the parent picks the teacher after free trial lessons.

Do you teach Arabic classes in Chicago online with a native Arabic teacher?

Yes. A native Arabic speaker teaches Arabic one-to-one, from the alphabet to reading and speaking. Many Chicago families already hear Arabic at home, and the teacher can talk with the parents as well.

Can a family in Bridgeview or Orland Park book online Quran lessons?

Yes. The southwest suburbs use the same Central time as the city, so the slots are the same. Lessons are on video; nobody travels.

Are there tajweed classes online in Chicago in the evenings, Central time?

Yes. Tajweed lessons run in the evening in Central time, usually between 4 and 8 pm on weekdays; we suggest keeping lessons within that window. The teacher corrects your recitation live.

Do you have online Quran classes for kids in the Chicago suburbs after school?

Yes. After-school slots are the core of our US schedule because our teachers work to US hours. Evanston, Naperville, Schaumburg and Aurora families book the same way as city families.
