There are a lot of distractions that waste a Muslim’s time these days and carry him with great sins. On Eid, some find it easy to get busy with these things for entertainment or even to spend a different time with family and friends.
This is a grave mistake, as the Muslim must stay away from the forbidden throughout the year, so he is not permitted on Eid what is not permitted on any other day.
And the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, had beautiful Sunnahs on the day of Eid, so they called for joy, pleasure, and preparation for this blessed day. On the days of Eid, he would wear the best clothes he could find, and he would beautify himself, paint, and wear perfume, so he would only smell pure perfume, peace and blessings be upon him.
Ibn al-Qayyim said: And he, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, used to wear his most beautiful clothes for them (i.e., for the two Eids), and he had a suit that he wore for the two Eids and Fridays. And Ibn Omar, may God be pleased with them both, used to take a bath for the two Eids, and Ibn Omar was one of the most scrupulous people in the Sunnah of the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, and he, peace be upon him, did not go out on the day of Fitr until he had eaten, and he did not feed on the day of sacrifice until he had been slaughtered, and he also used to eat before going out to the prayer place in Eid al-Fitr is dates, as Anas, may God be pleased with him, said: The Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, did not set out on the day of Eid al-Fitr until he had eaten dates and ate them oddly, i.e. one, three, five, or seven.
Here we will suggest some activities that can be done on the day of Eid and involve children in them as well, to ensure that they enjoy this day and feel differently from other days.
Meeting for breakfast with extended family
Seeing relatives at the feast is a special joy, as the feast can be the opportunity to get closer, restore ties and introduce family children to each other, allowing them to spend an enjoyable group time.
In such gatherings, we must not forget to provide a suitable environment for children and not prevent them from playing so that they do not associate the Eid gathering with abusing them or ordering them to sit quietly in a way that contradicts the nature of the stage they are in. Considering children as a priority on the day of Eid does not deprive adults of their right to listen to the holiday and spend a different time, but enhancing the feeling of Eid al-Fitr joy in the hearts of children requires an effort from us adults to be successful.
Coordinate the house with holiday decorations with the family
All family members rejoice at the idea of decorating the house to welcome the feast of all ages, especially if they participate together in the coordination and decorating process, so a day or two before the feast, you can take your family to buy a special set of decorations, such as balloons, ribbons of cloth that say Happy Eid, and some lights to decorate the garden or Porch.
Ask your family to help you inflate balloons and arrange them at home, and have them help you hang decorations and lights, and don’t forget to buy some toys that express the feast, such as a sheep and a cow if it is Eid al-Adha, in order to coordinate them in your children’s rooms and among the library books.
Dessert preparation
There are many types of sweets that are associated with the time of Eid, so the family can search for such recipes and participate in preparing them and then eating them. This will create a lot of anticipation about the success of the recipe and the family bond will be strengthened by talking about the different ingredients and what everyone considers delicious.
Going out to the beach or public parks
Enjoying nature is always a special thing. It is possible to take advantage of the holiday time, when the whole family often gathers and no one is associated with work or study, to visit some places worth contemplating, or even to travel to a nearby town to spend a different time in a new place.
Allocate time for women and girls to decorate and wear beautiful clothes inside the house
Girls and women in general need to enjoy their own adornment and the clothes in which they look attractive, and because it is not possible to appear in these clothes in front of men and the correct hijab must be adhered to, it is possible to spend the Eid time in the work of a women’s gathering in which they take into account the woman’s nakedness in front of the woman (which is from the navel to the knee) and wear Clothes that they like, with makeup and perfume. This behavior educates young girls to comprehend the idea of adorning themselves inside the home and to adhere to the conditions of hijab approved by Sharia outside it and in front of non-mahram men.
