What Is The Importance Of Parents In Islam?
Parents play a huge role in all of our lives, after our mothers carry us for nine whole months, starting from the moment that we are born, our parents are everything we have, they go through everything with us in life, they take care of us and guide us while helping us to grow into stable good human beings.
The Importance Of Parents In Islam:
In Islam, Allah orders all Muslims to treat their parents with respect and obey all their orders. This has been mentioned several times in the Quran and in the Sunnah, which highlights the importance of parents in Islam, stressing the fact that if anyone mistreats their parents, they would be making huge sins no matter how many good deeds they do in their lives, and this is due to the fact that no matter what people do in their lives they cannot be thankful enough for their parents, as our parents gave us everything they can and they basically sacrifice their lives for their children.
The Importance Of Parents In Islam:
Allah commands Islam parents to teach their children about their religion, as Allah orders parents to guide their children when it comes to Islamic learning and teaches them everything related to Islam. Parents in Islam are completely responsible for their children till a certain age, and in front of Allah they are the ones who are responsible for their child’s Islamic learning and behavior such as teaching their children the Islamic prayers or the Salah, this is until the child reaches a certain age in which he/she are wise and old enough to be responsible for their own acts and behaviors.
What does Quran say about parents?
Any Muslim house is aware of the importance of parents and knows how Allah and The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stressed and highlighted this issue. One of the times Allah mentioned in Quran the importance of parents and the importance of treating them with respect was in surat Al Israa:
“Your Lord has decreed that you shall not worship anyone except Him, and [He has enjoined] kindness to parents. Should they reach old age at your side — one of them or both — do not say to them, ‘Uff!’ And do not chide them, but speak to them noble words. Lower the wing of humility to them, out of mercy, and say, ‘My Lord! Have mercy on them, just as they reared me when I was [a] small [child]!’”
The Importance Of Parents In Islam:
Also, in surat Al Israa in the Quran Allah said;
“Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him and that you shall render utmost kindness to your parents.”
While in surat Al-Ahqaf in the Quran Allah says;
“And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment. His mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship.”
In addition, there was a conversation between Prophet Muhammed and one of his companions that went as follows;
“The companion asked him, “Who is it that deserves my good treatment most?” He replied: “Your mother”. The Companion asked again. “Who’s next?” He again replied “Your mother”. The Companion asked for a third time: “Who’s next?” Again, Messenger of Allah replied: “Your mother”. Then for the fourth time, the Companion asked: “Who’s after that?” Messenger of Allah replied: “Your father.” (Narrated by al-Bukhari)
The Importance Of Parents In Islam:
As parents have certain duties towards their children, according to Islam education and all the teaching in Islam; sons and daughters also have obligations and duties towards their parents. Showing mercy towards parents is essential, in addition to treating them with respect and being thankful to them. People should also be patient and kind with their parents and always pray for them. In addition to more tips that are mentioned in Islam to guide Muslims on how they should treat their parents, and stresses the importance of parents in Islam.
