Murouj Academy is an online Quran academy. Students of all ages learn to read, recite, memorize and understand the Quran in live one-to-one classes with native Arab teachers, including ijazah holders. Classes run in our own online classroom, in your time zone, and your first class is a free trial with the teacher you choose.

## What is an online Quran academy?

A Quran academy is a school for learning the Quran, as opposed to a single tutor or a recorded course. It has a set of courses, a standard for its teachers, a plan for each student and a way of keeping track of progress. An online Quran academy does all of this over video, so a family in Texas, Toronto, Manchester or Sydney can learn from the same teachers.

For most learners the academy is a way of getting the things that are hard to find by yourself: a teacher who can hear every mistake, a sensible order in which to learn, and someone who keeps you coming back week after week. The Quran is learned by listening and correction, and that is why Murouj Academy teaches live and one-to-one.

## What does a Quran academy teach?

Learning the Quran is a path with several stations, and a good academy lets you start at the right one. Murouj Academy's six courses follow that path.

1. **Reading the letters.** The [Qaida classes for beginners](https://muroujacademy.com/courses/qaida-classes-for-beginners/) teach the Arabic letters, vowels and joining rules with the Noorani Qaida, for children and adults who cannot yet read Arabic. By the end you can read the Quran on your own.
2. **Reciting correctly.** The [Tajweed classes](https://muroujacademy.com/courses/tajweed-classes/) teach the rules of recitation, from the articulation points of the letters to the rules of stopping. 3. **Reciting fluently.** [Quran recitation correction](https://muroujacademy.com/courses/quran-recitation-correction/) is for people who can already read: you recite aloud and your teacher listens and corrects you live, until your recitation is clear, fluent and confident.
4. **Memorizing.** The [Quran memorization course](https://muroujacademy.com/courses/quran-memorization-course/) is a hifz program built around a plan for new lessons and regular revision, at the pace of the student.
5. **Understanding the language.** The [Arabic course](https://muroujacademy.com/courses/standard-arabic-course/) teaches Modern Standard Arabic or the Arabic of the Quran, so that you understand more of what you recite.
6. **Knowing the faith.** [Islamic studies for kids](https://muroujacademy.com/courses/islamic-studies-for-kids/) teaches children belief, worship, manners and the stories of the prophets in plain words.

## What is an ijazah, and do your teachers hold one?

An ijazah is a formal, chain-based authorisation from a qualified teacher. It certifies that the holder has mastered a body of knowledge, such as reciting the Quran, and is allowed to teach it and to certify others. A parent or a friend who knows the Quran can help you practise, but a teacher with an ijazah has been checked and authorised to teach.

## Why one-to-one and not a group class?

Group classes have their place, and a weekend program at your local masjid gives children friends and community. But when the aim is correct recitation, the most useful thing a teacher can give you is attention. In a one-to-one lesson the teacher hears every verse you recite, corrects it at once, and moves faster or slower depending on you. Nobody is waiting for the rest of the class.

That is also why every student at Murouj Academy has a personalised curriculum. A seven-year-old learning her letters and an adult memorizing a new juz do not need the same plan, and neither of them needs to keep pace with a group. ## How do online classes work?

Lessons run in Murouj Academy's own online classroom, which opens from a link. You do not need an account or an app. Your teacher can select an ayah or a word on a shared Madinah Mushaf page and it follows on your screen, and a shared whiteboard is used for letters and rules. Lessons are supported by PDFs, slides and videos, with regular follow-up.

## How does the free trial work?

2. **Choose your teacher.** Read the teacher profiles and pick one. We confirm a slot that works for you with that teacher.
3. **Take the free class.** The trial is a real one-to-one lesson. Your teacher checks the student's level and suggests a plan. If you continue, you choose a package of two to five classes a week, with lessons of 30, 45 or 60 minutes.
